The following Jamaica Plain individuals, businesses and organizations deserve recognition.

Rita Kantarowski will be among this years inductees into the YWCA's Academy of Women Achievers at their 13th annual Women's Leadership Gala and Benefit Auction on Wednesday, June 13.

Jeffrey M. Nellhaus was recently promoted to acting director of the state Department of Education.

Yang Yu and Nicole M. Uhrig were named to the University of Massachusetts Amherst dean's list for the fall 2006 semster.

Dean Martin, a science teacher at the Gardener School in Allston, was presented with a Secretary's Award for Excellence in Environmental Education by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and the Environment.

Colleen Flanagan was appointed Camp and Youth Leadership Manager for Easter Seals Massachusetts

Rebecca E. Greening graduated from New York University this spring, she will be attending Northeastern University School of Law in the fall.

Hearth, Inc., an organization dedicated to ending elder homelessness was named by Citizens Bank of Boston as its 2007 housing hero.

Church Square Community Partners and The Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation received a grant for remidiation of asbestos and lead paint contamination at the Blessed Sacrament Church Campus from MassDevelopment

Alejandro Cesar Flores-Howland graduated from Green Mountain College in Vermont.

Evan Mehler recieved a Bachelor of Arts degree from Marlboro College in Vermont.

The Elizabeth Stone House and The Botton Line won grants from The Staples Foundation for Learning, Inc.

Ira H. Grolman was re-appointed public administrator of Suffolk County.

Virginia Dawn Pratt received a graduate degree from Salem State College

Benjamin Alterman a junior at Boston Latin Academy, and Catherine Chiu a counselor at the school were named Bezos Aspen Student Scholar and Bezos Aspen Educator Scholar, respectively by the Bezos Family Foundation and invited to participate in this years Aspen Ideas Festival.

Stephen Rosenfeld, founder of Health Law Advocates and Children's Mental Health Access Project was honored at the Federation for Children With Special Needs's Gala of Possiblities.
